This text along with others demonstrates the behavior of an Excellent Minister.

In this special initial paper on Preachers and Preaching, I want you to essentially see two biblical principles: viz., the foundation and the freedom of the excellent minister/pastor-teacher.

I.                  The Foundation of an Excellent Minister (Gal.1:11-12).

The Call is paramount and significant in the life of the minister...consider with me three elements of his call:

A.   The nature of the call

11 I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up.  12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.  (Gal. 1:11-12)

B.  The knowledge of the call

15 But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased (Gal. 1:15)

C.  The purpose of the call

16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles (Gal 1:16).

II. The Freedom of An Excellent Minister (Gal. 1:12)

                 -   The Confidence that comes with the divine call. We

will see that it’s negative and positive:

A.   The call is not Man-centered (Gal. 1:12a).

“I did not receive it from any man”

B.   The call is God-centered (Gal. 1:12b).

“I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ”

C.  The call is Grace empowered (Gal. 1:15)

15 “But when God, who set me apart from birth and

called me by his grace, was pleased…”
